Claude is the ChatGPT alternative from Anthropic that’s quietly been making waves… and for pretty good reason.

We’ve definitely been using it a fair bit at MMG Design in multiple areas, but the primary reasons being for content, marketing, outreach, and idea generation. We’ve even ran a few A/B tests to compare it to Chat GPT, and we just keep coming back to Claude.

TL:DR: If you plan on using a free version of an AI tool for life, then Claude is probably more worth your time to learn. But there’s a few caveats based on your specific situation.

The Anthropic Advantage

Let’s unpack some of the nuances of the Claude (aka the cool new kid on the block):

1. By far the biggest leg up Claude has on ChatGPT is the ability to understand niche concepts. If you know a certain Webflow plugin, Notion integration, or technical feature that appears to have very few users, there’s a good chance that Claude still knows how to use it. This is fantastic for beginners in any field, as Claude can provide an overview and point you in the right direction like a 1:1 instructor.
2. Claude excels at retaining context over longer conversations. It can refer back to earlier parts of the discussion with impressive accuracy, making it particularly useful for in-depth research or complex problem-solving sessions that require building on previous information.
3. When it comes to breaking down complex problems or analyzing data, Claude often provides more structured and logical responses than ChatGPT, making it a trustworthy, strategic planning tool for content creators.
4. What’s even more impressive is Claude’s intelligence to speed ratio beating all of OpenAI’s models. Anthropic’s newest 3.5 Sonnet model outperformed their previous flagship model (Claude 3 Opus) in intelligence and speed. You can work on marketing and content creation without long response times breaking your flow.
5. Large projects can leverage Claude as well. Although they can’t boast the 1 million token context window of Gemini, Anthropic recently added Artifacts, a feature that allows users to import files that Claude can continuously reference. This feature doesn’t require any prior knowledge, and has a beginner-friendly interface.
6. Drag and drop up to 5 large files (max 30MB each) like images, spreadsheets, and other data can be added to your chat’s context. Drag in anything from marketing materials to content mock-ups and Claude can give you pointers on consistency, spelling, how well your brand voice comes through.

Ecosystem Effect of ChatGPT

While Claude is making waves, ChatGPT definitely isn't going anywhere. There’s always tradeoffs… and these are a few things that make ChatGPT the mainstream option (for now, at least) :

1. ChatGPT's memory feature allows it to retain information between conversations, cutting out a lot of redundant prompting.
2. Claude doesn’t currently offer an easy way to clear chat history, which could be a concern for privacy-conscious users.
3. ChatGPT has a plugin ecosystem while Claude hasn’t added third-party extensions yet. But that hasn’t stopped users from trying, as there are already browser extensions like Claude Chat Cleaner that add features Claude is missing!

So, is Claude the new champion of AI assistants? If you try out the free tiers of both ChatGPT-4 and Claude 3.5 Sonnet, you’ll likely find that Claude gives more intelligent answers. Anthropic has been the industry leader since Claude 3 Opus launched, furthered that lead with 3.5 Sonnet, and their highly anticipated 3.5 Opus model is coming later this year.
